Finding A Great Spa Hotel in Phang Nga Province

As one of the world’s premier holiday destinations, Thailand is popular for many reasons. The great weather, exotic mix of culture and cuisine and the superb picture postcard beaches littered around the country’s coasts and islands all contribute to making it an excellent place to experience. Many flock to the country’s well-known islands of Phuket and Koh Samui or the coastal resorts of Krabi or Hua Hin, but for the purpose of this article, we will consider the less-known area of Khao Lak on the west coast. A good proportion of holidaymakers want a relaxing and restful stay to recharge their batteries before heading back to their busy everyday lives. Where better to do this than at a Spa resort, where you can indulge in reinvigorating treatments and get the best massages in Khao Lak?

How Do I Get There

Khao Lak is in the southern province of Phang Nga on the western coast adjacent to the popular Phuket province and easily reached via the airports in nearby Phuket or Koh Samui. The name Khao Lak means ‘Main Mountain’ as the Lak Mountain is the largest peak in the nearby Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park and, in ancient times, was used as a marker to guide sea-going vessels into the local ports.

Finding A Super Spa

While Khao Lak is quieter than some of the country’s popular destinations is still well equipped with an excellent range of accommodation options which include Spa hotels and resorts; amongst the best examples are –

  • Khao Lak Merlin Resort & Spa – on the stunning Lam Kaen beach, this eco-friendly resort offers villas set in mature tropical rainforests and has its own excellent restaurant.
  • The Haven Khao Lak – This beachside resort hotel is consistently well-reviewed and has a fabulous design centred around its five pools, spa, and a superb restaurant.
  • Khaolak Bhandari Resort & Spa – this fantastic hotel features traditional Thai architecture, elegantly decorated chalets and bungalows, and excellent facilities.

Activities In and Around Khao Lak

The Khao Lak area is a world-renowned Scuba diving mecca as the nearby Similan Islands have a well-deserved reputation as one of the world’s best; the stunning coral reefs hide Manta rays and Leopard sharks, to name just two species. For the more adventurous trips into the jungle centred around the local, national park are available by foot, bicycle, or ATV, and both the Ton Chong Fa Waterfalls and Thai Navy’s Turtle Nursery are worth a visit.

If you are looking for a relaxing and restful holiday, head for Khao Lak and stay in one of the excellent resort spa hotels, you will not be disappointed.
